Hope everyone had a lovely and delicious holiday!
We are still up in DC with my mother. It’s been a whirlwind of cooking, long walks and family time!
Luckily we were able to fit in a little Mysore action at Ashtanga Yoga Center DC on Thursday morning. I got some great tips for my backbends from David there, for which I was most grateful!
Also we were fortunate enough to attend a fun Jivamukti Yoga class led by our friend Hari-Kirtana Das this morning. It’s always a treat to study with such a great teacher and to get the chance to play with a different style of yoga.
Here are a few snaps of some of the tastiness over the past few days.
A very very gingery soup I made out of carrots (from my garden!), a beet and Greek yogurt. Yum! Very zingy with all that fresh ginger.
Greens, pomegranate seeds, local cheese, watermelon radishes and scallions with a red wine vinaigrette.
The whole shebang.
And then…..the Thanksgiving preparations!
Mum and me in the kitchen together preparing the feast!
Thaddeus and I taking over the kitchen duties. He’s the world best dishwasher/vegetable cutter!
And on to the good stuff – the food!
Baby brussel sprouts and blanched broccoli rabe with parmesan, slivered almonds and garlic waiting to pop into the oven for some roasting!
Mashed potato casserole with breadcrumbs and parmesan cheese, sour cream and more butter than you can possibly imagine! Seriously, there was more butter in this than I’ve eaten in the past year in total. And it was obscenely delicious!
And this is how a vegetarian stuffs her face with Thanksgiving yumminess! Green beans, chestnut and apple stuffing, potato roll, wild rice with corn and cranberries, roasted carrots and parsnips, broccoli rabe and mashed potatoes! Wow….and my desert plate was almost that size too…hehe.
What a bountiful and wonderful holiday. We had a long table with 17 friends and family…..
And we are doing it again tonight, so, I’m signing off now because I’ve got to get back into the kitchen!
